Dining Mexican at Casa Mexicana, Abuja

Casa Mexicana
Ceddi Plaza, Tafawa Balewa Way,
Central Business District, Abuja

As soon as I entered Casa Mexicana, I thought I had entered a quaint city in Mexico. From the Mexican music, to the sombreros (wide-brimmed hats from Mexico), and the colorful décor and ambiance, it was definitely a meal to remember. Chukwuma from @chukwuma.nj and I deliberated for about two days before deciding to visit Casa Mexicana, and we were not disappointed. First world problems – deciding what restaurant to go to. ?

For our starters, we ordered the Traditional Nachos. The nachos are tortilla chips topped with melted cheese, sour cream, and pico de gallo, served with guacamole. They were soft and cheesy, to say the least. The pico de gallo (diced tomatos, onions, and cilantro, with lime juice) and the guacamole (avocado-based dip) gave the nachos quite a kick.

We then ordered Chicken Fajitas and Enchiladas Mexicana de Pollo (Chicken Enchiladas). The Chicken Fajitas came on a hot plate with the chicken and veggies sizzling as the waitress brought it to our table. The dish was so hot, that my hand mistakenly touched it and omo! I nearly screamed because it almost burnt my skin. Ouch!  It was a very hearty portion that can feed two people. Chukwuma had the Chicken Enchiladas and I had a taste of it. If you don’t like cheese, you won’t like the enchiladas because there was a lot of cheese. Infact, the enchiladas were not visible in the dish, therefore, it didn’t look like the photo in the menu. They tasted nice, like Lasagna with a Mexican kick to it ?.

My drink was called Jamaica (Hibiscus Drink), which was like a Mexican version of Zobo.  I was really thirsty, so it definitely hit the spot. Chukwuma had the Horchata. The Horchata is made with rice, cinnamon, and sugar. It is a very sweet drink, more like a dessert drink (Not pictured).

Then we ended the meal by having Tres Leches for dessert. Tres Leches is one of my favorite desserts. I had it for the first time ever, when I went on a girls trip to Puerto Rico many years back, and to have it in Nigeria, was a delight. Tres Leches is a sponge cake, soaked in three different types of milk: evaporated milk, condensed milk, and heavy cream. It has a wet texture and very creamy.

Overall, I would definitely come back again. A Mexican restaurant in Abuja, owned by a Mexican, you can’t get better than that.
